The Monique C. Katz Bet Midrash Chevrati: Nishmat’s Weekly Forum on Jewish Values and Social Responsibility
In 2011, Nishmat established the Bet Midrash Chevrati, a weekly forum on social justice and Jewish values. The program, headed by published author and Modi’in rabbi Haim Navon, punctuates Nishmat’s philosophy of participating in greater society while staying rooted in Torah, by promoting community involvement and social responsibility. The program has captured students’ imagination with text-based investigation of Judaism’s attitude on fissures in Israeli society, gender issues, internet ethics, agunot, Women of the Wall, culture and the media, organ donation, immigration, conversion, judicial activism, and more.
