Nishmat's Community Outreach Bat Mitzvah Program recently hosted 20 girls and their mothers from the surrounding Pat neighborhood for a challah baking workshop. Tehilla Kagan, Special Activities Coordinator for Nishmat's Israeli Midrasha, taught the participants about the special mitzvah of hafrashat challah (taking challah) , telling parables and stories to connect the girls to this unique women's mitzvah. After working together to mix and knead over 16 pounds of dough, both mothers and daughters enjoyed braiding and baking their challahs with delicious results.
