Slice of Lockdown Life at Nishmat

Confronted with a nationwide lockdown, Nishmat students enjoyed… and created… unusual blessings at the start of this academic year.
Israeli students chose to celebrate Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur with 26 Shana Ba’Aretz students from overseas, who were confined to campus. A neighborhood “young professionals” minyan, which had met in Nishmat’s beit midrash before the pandemic, invited the young women to join them for High Holiday services in a nearby high-school outdoor courtyard. With extraordinary effort and mazal, permission was granted by Israel’s Ministry of Health for the students to join them … with masks, social distancing and partitions. Everyone brought her own siddur and chair.
