The Beit Midrash is the heart of Nishmat! It’s where our students take an active part in deep learning through discussion and debate. Dive deep into our sefarim, mefarshim (commentaries) and sources. Develop your skills of learning how to learn that will last you a lifetime.
Our mornings and evenings are devoted to Seder and Shiur on Halacha, Talmud, Tanach and Machshava. Our afternoon classes cover a wide array of topics, including Mussar, Women & Mitzvot, Jewish Philosophy, Avodat Hamidot and more.
Nishmat’s world-renowned staff of Torah educators will guide you through the world of Torah.
Our educators use a variety of teaching styles including chevruta (2-person), chaburah (small group) and lectures to maximize your success in learning.
As a Liba student, you will be able to choose from a rich array of shiurim taught in English during every period of the day, with the option to join Israeli Hebrew shiurim when it’s right for you. We offer individualized guidance to help you build the schedule that best meets your needs, without ever compromising the quality of your learning and ability to delve deep into a topic and fully explore what interests you.
Liba is an English-speaking program in an Israeli Midrasha. This enables you to experience Israel and all it has to offer without giving up your identity and comfort.
Our Beit Midrash is home to students from across Israeli society. Each student brings her own unique voice and diverse life experience. Our Israeli students learn from our overseas students just as much as our overseas students learn from our Israeli students! Nishmat is also a multigenerational experience, as women from many different phases of life devote serious years to intensive Talmud Torah in the same Beit Midrash.
Lifnei Sherut – Israeli students who have graduated high school who are planning to serve in the IDF or Sherut Leumi (National Service) after learning at Nishmat.
Acharei Sherut – Israeli students who have completed Sherut Leumi or IDF service.
Shiur Hemshech – Students who continue their learning at Nishmat for another year, two, three or even four!
Maayan – Students from the Ethiopian-Israeli community who are learning at Nishmat while preparing for university.
Maayan Hemshech – Students from the Ethiopian-Israeli community who are in university and building their professional careers.
Kollel – Post-college young women who learn Talmud and Halacha full-time and live on campus with their families.
Yoatzot Halacha – Women studying intensively for certification as advisors in women’s reproductive health and halacha.
Torat Chaim
Torah must be Torat Chaim, a Torah that can accompany us through life far beyond the four walls of our Beit Midrash. Liba gives students the tools to translate their deep Torah learning into their future professional lives. Students participate in lectures and workshops with prominent Orthodox professionals ranging from business, law, medicine, mental health, education, and the humanities. Under their wisdom and guidance, students learn how to navigate the intersection between the professional world and the world of Halacha.
Sites and Sources
Coming to Israel for a year is a powerful opportunity to experience the origins and future trajectory of our spiritual and national history. Every other Sunday, Liba students go out with a tour guide and Tanach in hand to witness the stories of our ancestors through the land and all of its tremendous history.
“One of my favorite classes is Sites and Sources, which is where you learn about something in Tanach, then we actually get to go to the place which is just so cool."
